One of the most important aspects of the modern horse racing business is the design of racetracks and training facilities to minimise horse wastage and breakdown.

Our consultants have international experience in designing and maintaining such facilities to the strictest standards resulting from the practical application and implementation of available technical and research information.

Modern racetracks should offer close spectator participation. Thus important aspects of design are:

  •  An understanding of the biomechanics of horses running at speed and their  inter-relation with track shape and surface material

  •  Track configuration to allow for competitive racing independent of barrier  draw

  •  Placement of starts and winning post in relation to spectator viewing areas

  •  Selection of track surface material

  •  Super-elevation of bends

Training facility design, including stables, must minimise hazards to horses, incorporate modern training aids and allow for efficient operation. Such features must consider/incorporate:

  •  Ease of management and maintenance

  •  Local climatic conditions

  •  Environmental equine health problems - ventilation/air change/disease  control

  •  Modern training aids. Equine exercise physiology

  •  Veterinary and Farriery facilities

  •  Spelling/Lay Up/Rehabilitation facilities

  •  Feed and bedding storage

  •  Waste disposal

  •  Vermin control

  •  Equipment and Tack

  •  Auxiliary services such as staff accommodation and catering

  •  Administrative services
